About The Event
Butxaca Jazz Band
Brighton-based Butxaca are all about the groove! The band’s name, pronounced boo-ja-ka, translated from Valenciano literally means pocket, but not in the Western sense.
‘Dins de la Butxaca’ would be a literal translation of ‘in the pocket’, in this case, playing a mix of well-balanced, tight groove and with heady solos.
This band play well together, having sharpened their jazz chops on numerous gigs. Together and in other combinations and line ups in Sussex and the South-East over the last twenty years.
Playing from their well-honed collection of originals inspired by Herbie Hancock, Freddie Hubbard, and others. Performed at venues and festivals (Love Supreme, Brighton Festival, The South Coast Jazz Festival, B.O.A.T) delighting audiences.
Butxaca are Jane Stimpson (brass), Andy Pickett (woodwinds), Steve Morgan (keyboard), John Bedford (bass), Phil Naylor (drums), and led by saxophonist and respected music educator, Beccy Perez Rork.
